If you look closely at the Pacu (pronounced pah-koo), you may realize that it looks a lot like one of the most feared fish in the world, the piranha! In fact, they are related, but the piranha is carnivorous (eats meat), and the Pacu is herbivorous (eats plants). There are about 55 species of Pacu, all native to the rivers of South America. They are deep-bodied, flattened fishes and the largest ones reach a weight of 20 kg (44 pounds). The Pacu at Marineland are about 11.3 kg (25 pounds) and about 50.8 cm (20 inches) in length. They are fed special fish pellets that satisfy all their dietary requirements.
